Ciao from your Local Goodie, Panzanella!
The month of May brings an abundance of celebrations, flowers, local berries and veggies, and the first taste of summer heat. The marvelous cheeses of Chapel Hill Creamery are featured in many dishes this month. On our dinner menu, the North Carolina Rainbow Trout Almandine with Basmati Rice and Broccolini is a delicious springtime dish. This is wonderful, farm-raised trout from the NC mountains.

Happy Mother's Day,
and congratulations to all the 2007 graduates.

Events: Wine Dinners!
The Wines of Spain
Monday, May 21
7:00-9:30 pm

Join us for a wine tasting of Spain's wonderful wine regions. Spain has the most land under vine in the world and yet is only third in production. Its arid climate and often drought conditions are the cause of extremely low average yields. From the cool Atlantic region of Galicia to the warmer mediterranean climate in the south, Spain's wine producing areas are extremely diverse offering deep rich, alcoholic reds to light minerally whites to its famous fortified wine, sherry. Spain has much to offer wine lovers and novices alike. So, join us Monday, May 21 for a tasting tour of this interesting wine-producing country.

Wine Dinner tickets cost $40 per person. Please purchase tickets in advance at Panzanella or the Customer Service Desk at Weaver Street Market in Carrboro.
Gallery
Through May 21st we will be showing Acrylic Paintings and Other Works by Richard Kinnaird. Be sure to come in and see the work of this influential, local artist before it comes down.

Our next art exhibit will be "Brushes with Life: Art, Artists, & Mental Illness". May 22, 2007 through July 29 Public Reception: Monday, June 11, 5:30 - 7:30pm

The name of this exhibit is also the name of a patient art gallery located on the 3rd floor of the UNC Neurosciences Hospital outside of the Psychotic disorders inpatient unit. It is part of the Schizophrenia Treatment and Evaluation Program (STEP) at UNC, which provides inpatient and outpatient care of people dealing with psychotic symptoms or illnesses such as Schizophrenia or Schizoaffective disorder. The gallery features artwork and poetry from STEP inpatients, clinic outpatients, and clients from Club Nova, a local clubhouse for the mentally ill. The initial goal of the gallery was to give our artists a permanent art space to display their creativity and art to a wider audience. Additionally we hoped to promote art and healing. We also target stigma associated with mental illness demonstrating people with serious mental illnesses such as Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective, and Bipolar disorder can be productive and creative.

"Brushes With Life" has also had numerous traveling shows around the state over the years including the NC Museum of Art and the RDU International Airport. This August the gallery is slated for an exhibit at the Carrboro Art Center. The permanent collection is on display on the 1st floor of UNC Neuroscience Hospital.

This exhibit will also include Peer Tree mirror frames handcrafted by artisans using the traditional techniques of genuine gold leafing and painted finishes. Each frame is a work of art uniquely designed, crafted, and signed by the artist. The website is www.brusheswithlife.org and the email is stepart@med.unc.edu.
