Local Farms/Local Art:
A Group Art Exhibit Celebrating the 13th Annual Piedmont Farm Tour
Now through June 1, 2008
The Local Farms / Local Art Artist Reception at Panzanella on Monday evening, April 28 was a big, fun gathering of artists, farmers, and other art lovers. Luscious, local foods were served, including cheeses from Chapel Hill Creamery and Celebrity Dairy, sauerkraut, chutneys, and cakes made by The Farmer's Daughter in Carrboro, NC Hoop Cheese from Ashe County, sausages from Hurdle Mills, NC, and breads made by the WSM bread bakers. The spectacular flowers came from Peregrine Farm.
The exhibit includes painting, drawing, and photography by 26 NC artists. From April 1 - 27, Panzanella guests were given ballots and enthusiastically voted for their favorite piece in the show. The top 3 vote winners won Weaver Street Market / Panzanella Gift Cards. First prize ($100 gift card) was awarded to Nathalie Worthington for "Ned", an acrylic portrait on wood of an enchanting billy goat. Second prize ($50 gift card) went to Carroll Lassiter for her breathtaking oil painting, "Parrish Field". Third prize ($25 gift card) was won by Phyllis Burns, for her beautiful watercolor, "Sunlight in the Henhouse". So far, four pieces in the exhibit have been purchased.
Be sure to come by before the show comes down on June 2 to enjoy a unique and diverse show of local artwork inspired by NC farms.

| Wine Special |
|
Panzanella has two special wines for May. From May 1st through the 12th, we'll feature Laurent Bréban Brut Rosé, a beautiful, frothy French sparkling rosé, a lovely aperitif, and perfect for all your May celebrations.
Starting on May 12th and through June, we'll be featuring Chateau de Campuget Rosé 2007, Grenache Noir (30%), Syrah (70%). Chateau de Campuget in Costieres de Nimes is a beautiful wine property dating back to 1640, located between Nimes and Arles. The soil is typical for the region with lots of stones, forcing the roots deep down to find water in the lower layers of clay contributing additional character to the wine. The grapes also benefit from the sunny Mediterranean climate.
The property, managed by Jean-Lin Dalle, and his son Franck-Lin, has belonged to the Dalle family since 1941, is producing A.O.C. Costieres de Nimes wines. Although equipped with stainless steel tanks and modern winemaking technology, the wines are made and matured in a traditional way. With their own bottling line and air-conditioned warehouse, the winemakers control the quality of their wines from the vineyard to the bottle.
Try it with salads or anything you please—a delicious, refreshing, versatile food wine.
Chateau de Campuget is one of the stars of the up and coming appellation of Costieres de Nimes. - Robert Parker Jr. Wine Advocate #117

It's the berries!
The wonderful Seasonal Fruit Crisp on our dessert menu is always changing as we go from local springtime fruits to the summer ones. Right now, it's strawberries and rhubarb. Ask your server which berries are currently featured in the crisp, so you don't miss your favorites.
Served with luscious vanilla ice cream from Homeland Creamery in Julian, NC, the "Crisp" is a celebration of the seasonal sweetness.
