July Wine Dinner: The Best of North Carolina
Monday, July 21, 7 - 9:30 pm

When our wine merchandiser, Peg Todloski visits NC wineries she meets with winemakers, tours vineyards and of course, she tastes wines. Each time, she rediscovers a state with a thriving wine industry, great people and beautiful vineyards. Please join us on Monday, the 21st, for a summer celebration of local wine and delicious food. Peg will share her knowledge and some of our state's best wines with you. Plenty of delicious dishes prepared by Panzanella chef, Chris Capron will be served.

The cost of this event is $45 per person. Space is limited, so reserve early. Please pay in advance and pick up a ticket for this event at either Panzanella or the customer service desk at Weaver Street Market in Carrboro.

Tour North Carolina Wineries!
Friday, July 25th, you can join Peg Todloski for the 4th Annual NC Wine Tour, and experience the fun, the breathtaking sight of summer vineyards and the deliciousness of our state's hand-crafted wines for yourself. There are not many tickets remaining for this unique opportunity. We'll travel by chartered bus, and Peg will personally guide us through our daylong tour of three great NC wineries, nestled into the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Tickets are $75.00 each and include a continental breakfast, lunch, all tasting and tour fees, souvenir glasses and door prizes! For tickets and complete details, check at the service desk in our Carrboro store.

Landscapes and other subjects
Oil paintings by Carroll Lassiter
Now through August 3, 2008
Artist's Reception Monday, June 9, 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

If you visited Panzanella during the past two months, you will certainly have noticed Carroll Lassiter's beautiful oil painting, "Parrish Field". The works selected for her solo exhibit include more glorious landscapes - immediately recognizable as Carroll's - and still life subjects, all handled with her characteristic fascination, meticulousness, and outstanding skill with oils. Of this group, Carroll says, "My most recent paintings are large landscapes of rural North Carolina. Although I thought that I was painting an objective rendering of a scene, it is the subjective nuance that makes a work engaging. Buttercups on the Road to Snug Harbor is a scene my mother and I witnessed on a drive near home in Edenton, NC. The ethereal light and big sky of open land made me stop and soak up all that color."

Other series subject matter include: empty cups waiting for the muse, pears lounging on linens or pears invaded by the military, beautiful swishy kimono, fishing paraphernalia, flowers and tools.

As a volunteer docent at the Ackland Museum in Chapel Hill, Carroll is able to be near some of her favorite works of art and share her enthusiasm with museum visitors. You can also visit her at her studio during the Orange County Open Studio Tour, which takes place this fall, on November 1st, 2nd, 8th and 9th.

Carroll has a BFA in painting from UNC-CH, and has studied ceramics at UNC-CH and Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC, and welding at Alamance Community College.

Wine Special
While our supply lasts, we'll continue to feature Chateau de Campuget Rosé 2007, made from Grenache Noir (30%) and Syrah (70%). Chateau de Campuget in Costieres de Nimes is a beautiful wine property dating back to 1640, located between Nimes and Arles. Try it with salads or anything you please—a delicious, refreshing, versatile food wine. "Chateau de Campuget is one of the stars of the up and coming appellation of Costieres de Nimes." - Robert Parker Jr. Wine Advocate #117

When the lovely French rosé is gone, we'll be featuring 2006 Monmousseau Vouvray. With a light hay color and aromas of honey and ripe apples, this Chenin Blanc from France's Loire Valley is pleasing and delicate—mildly sweet, mildly acidic—very easy to drink with or without food. The '06 Monmousseau has the characteristic off-dry style, with a silky mouth-feel and flavors of pear, citrus, and sweet apple. A perfect wine for sweeter wine lovers to enjoy that will also please those who generally choose drier whites. Try it with foods that won't overpower it, like the Potato and Fennel Lasagna or the NC Rainbow Trout. $5.50 by glass $27 by bottle

On the Bar
