It has influenced, and been influenced by owner interests, local producers and farmers, and area non-profits. This exhibit contains images created by our neighbors and inspired by the people, places, and events that continue to make our little town so extraordinary. 20 Years of Community Partnership

About this exhibit: by Mary Votta, Panzanella Gallerist I've been slow in providing information about the artwork and photos, and there has been a great deal of interest in the enlarged photos of the Bread & Puppet Theater performance, that we think were taken in the summer of '89 by a member of WSM's staff. The show was named "The Same Boat: The Passion of Chico Mendes". Mendes was a rubber tapper in Brazil who became an environmental activist and organized a union of rubber tappers in response to the clearing of huge areas of rain forest for cattle ranches. Chico Mendes was murdered by the ranchers in 1988. Bread & Puppet toured "The Same Boat" on the east coast of the US, including local volunteer performers in the show wherever they went. Then in 1994 they took the show to Brazil and played it in several locations in and around São Paulo and in the coastal city of Salvador. Still touring today, Bread & Puppet Theater is one of the oldest, nonprofit, self-supporting theatrical companies in the US. Public Reception: Monday, March 16, 2009, 5:30 - 7:30 PM Celebrate our 20th anniversary (this time at Panzanella) and reminisce about the old days with local artists and art lovers. Delicious light hors d'oeuvre will be served, and the bar will be open.

Call for Artists: Local Farms / Local Art An Art Exhibit Celebrating the 14th Annual Piedmont Farm Tour This spring, Panzanella and Weaver Street Market's Hillsborough store will host a juried exhibit to explore what North Carolina artists create when the inspiration is local farming. Selected artists will be part of a 9-week exhibit of work based on NC farms. Farmers and their families, crops, animals, landscapes, farm buildings and equipment are all possible subjects. About this exhibit opportunity: This will be the second year for the Local Farms/Local Art Exhibit. It will be displayed in Panzanella and the Hillsborough Weaver Street Market from April 5 through June 8, 2009. While the Piedmont Farm Tour involves only farms within the Piedmont, the artwork may represent farms anywhere in North Carolina. Artists must currently reside in North Carolina. Panzanella is a part of the Weaver Street Market Cooperative, which is a founding sponsor of the Piedmont Farm Tour.
